My IT Director has mentioned he has seen other hospitals that leverage VDI and said it didn't seem to take that long for them. With our current setup this seems to be quite high. Our recent tests indicate that it takes between 15-20 seconds for the users to roam from the dual monitors at the hub to the AIO's in the exam room. When they get back to the hub they will do the same and the session roams back to the dual monitor hub workstation. When they tap the badge the session is disconnected from the hub and then reconnected in the exam room on the AIO. Our workflow is a provider/nurse will be working in the hub, go in to an exam room, and tap their badge to roam their session.

This is all on-premise, on our local network, and all clients are wired. The connection servers have tunneling disabled so connections should be going directly from the zero clients to the session after the initial auth. We also use Imprivata to allow staff to badge in and out of workstations with their RFID Employee badge. We use Folder Redirection for desktop, downloads, favorites, roaming app data and FSLogix for Onedrive and local appdata/settings.

Our VM's run Wind, have 4 cores, and 8gb ram. Our setup is a nurse hub with Dell Wyse 5030 Zero Clients (Tera2 PCoIP) with dual monitors and Dell 5050 AIO (Tera2 PCoIP) Zero clients in each patient room. Some of our users have been complaining about slow roam times between clients. I work for a small hospital and we use VMware Horizon 7.13 for virtual desktops.
